Telecommute Jobs

One question I get all the time is "how did you find your telecommute job." And my answer is simple, I got lucky. Believe it or not, that is the truth. I subscribe to the Craigslist job feed. This sends me jobs that I'm interested in, every day. I still scour through it. Lots of great stuff.

You can also check the usual major job boards, such as Simply Hired, Career Builder and Monster. They all have ways to filter or search for Telecommunte jobs. I've provided a great list of resources below for finding a telecommute position:

As usual, be careful. There are lots of scams out there. Do your homework on the position before you accept anything...and before you quit your current job.

If you know of any other telecommute resources, please post them in the comments. Also, if you've had any telecommuting experiences, good or bad, please share them with us.

Good luck on your telecommute job search.

Create a Blog

Another great thing to use for job searching is a blog. There are several free places to get blogs, plus there is always WordPress and Drupal. The idea is you can blog about yourself, your skills, previous employment, your hobbies, your home life, everything.

The more an employer can find out about you the better. Provide a link to your blog on your resume and cover letter. Use your blog as a marketing tool for yourself. Don't forget to post your resume online as well and make sure to have your contact information in an easy to find spot.

Social Networking

Make sure that when you are searching for a job you leverage social networking sites. Sites such as Myspace, Linkedin, friendster, are all fantastic places to sign up. Create a profile, post some information about yourself. Link to others and get a job.

You can continue to use job boards, corporate websites, etc. but make sure you use social networking sites to your advantage. Networking is the best way to meet others who may be able to help you find a great job.  read more »

Company Websites

In today's world when people go to look for a job, they go to Monster or Simplyhired, etc. Most companies will advertise in these places, but not all. So a great resource to find jobs is corporate websites.

What I do, is when I am surfing the web, I check every site to see if they have a careers section. I'll skim through the jobs and apply for any that I want. Another technique is to go to sites or companies that I think would be cool to work for, and check their job listings.  read more »

Work From Home Jobs

I had been working at an office for over 14 years. I got sucked into the office politics, I hated commuting, and I didn’t particularly care for most of the people I worked with. I had to wake up early, dress up, pack a lunch and pretend to be friendly all day long.

My father and both of my sisters work from home. My dad is an internet marketer, my sister is a realtor and my other sister writes for a scrapbooking magazine. I’ve always been jealous of their work at home jobs. I never thought I’d find one.  read more »

Craigslist Job RSS Feeds

I use Craigslist for all of my job searching lately. Craigslist has many categories of jobs I can search. They also supply my searches as RSS feeds. Which means I don’t have to check Craigslist everyday. The jobs get fed right into my email program Thunderbird. For instance, I anytime there is a job posted in web design, graphic design, blogging, I get notified.

There are a number of other RSS readers out there, you don’t have to use Thunderbird. I think even the new Microsoft products are including RSS capabilities.  read more »

Networking

It’s important that you talk with all of your friends, family and neighbors about job searching. Let everyone know you are looking. You’d be surprised how many people will say “hey, you know my company is hiring…”

Recently, my neighbor asked if I knew how to write a cover letter as well as how to act in an interview. Little did she know I had this site. I told her to come here and read. Then I helped her with a cover letter and gave her some basic interviewing tips. Guess what? She got the job.  read more »
