Be aware that there are people out there trying to get your information for illegal purposes. Criminals will take advantage any way they can. Even people who post a resume online can become victims. If you receive an email from a company asking you to fill out an application online and they ask for your date of birth, this is huge red flag. Companies are not allowed to ask this question. It is illegal. These are usually idiot criminals trying to obtain your information. Don’t fill it out.

It is perfectly legal for a company to ask for you social security number. But be cautious even when doing this. Make sure the company that you are filling out the application for is a legitimate company. Most states have a web site that you can check to see if a company really exists. Just do a Google search for the state in which the company resides and look on the state site for information on the company.

If something doesn’t feel right it probably isn’t. Never ever give out your date of birth to anyone online.
