Be Truthful during an Interview

Have you ever lied during an interview? Most people would say “yes.” This can come back to haunt you in the end. If an employer decides to check out every little detail of what you have told them and they find out that you have lied this could be an immediate red flag and could possibly cost you the job.

Never give more information than necessary, but never lie if asked a direct question. Job history is one of the biggest things people lie about. Simple things like why they left an employer. If you are fired, tell them you were fired. I don’t know many people who have never been fired from a job for one reason or another.

Employers do and will check out your previous employment history. When verifying employment there is a limited amount that a company is allowed by law to disclose. This doesn’t always mean that they abide by this. Many employers, especially when they had been left on bad term, are more than willing to disclose this information. So do not lie about this.

Another part is employment history, how long you were at a particular
Company? This is a very easy thing for them to verify and is perfectly legal to check into. If your dates are way off, this may raise questions to the employer. Does this person always lie? Are they hiding something? Why would they do this? These are some of the questions that will go through their mind as they realize you have lied on such a simple thing. This may get brought up during the interview. Do not lie about this. If you honestly made a mistake on the dates apologize and correct the error. Don’t ever look at them as if you have no idea what you are talking about. They are more likely to believe another company over you.

Always be truthful on your job applications and in your job interviews and avoid getting caught in a lie!
